Requirements

All applicants must take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and pay the required fee for it. Only SAT will be considered as a College Placement Exam. SAT's may be taken in either the junior or senior year and a copy of the college board must be received by the Scholarship Committee by midnight May 1, 2012.

Particulars

The criteria for judging winners will be: grade point average, class rank, activities, SAT score, and essay.

The winner, or winners, will be selected by college professors chosen by the scholarship chairperson of the auxiliary.

The recipient of the award must attend an accredited college of his/her own choice. Winners may accept other college scholarship assistance in addition to the Virginia Wood -- W. D. Haralson Scholarship Award.

Any change of schools or course of study must be done only with the permission of the Virginia Wood -- W. D. Haralson Scholarship Committee.

If the winner is disqualified at any time, the award will go to the alternate.

The scholarship is to be used toward pursuing an undergraduate degree.

If the winner suffers a certified serious illness, the scholarship will be held in abeyance for not more than one year.

If unusual conditions are going to require an interruption in schooling, the recipient must so state the reason(s) in writing to the Scholarship Committee and request that the scholarship be held in abeyance. Said request will be reviewed by the committee and a declaration rendered.

If the NALC member is suspended by the local branch of the NALC or enters supervision, the scholarship will be canceled.
